أعرب الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة، أنطونيو غوتيريش عن عميق حزنه لوفاة الدكتور صائب عريقات، الأمين العام لمنظمة التحرير الفلسطينية وكبير المفاوضين الفلسطينيين في عملية السلام في الشرق الأوسط.
جاء ذلك في بيان أصدره الأمين العام قال فيه:
"أنا ممتن للمعرفة والصداقة اللتين جمعتني والدكتور عريقات. لقد كرس حياته من أجل السعي السلمي للعدالة والكرامة والحقوق المشروعة للفلسطينيين في تقرير المصير والسيادة وإقامة دولتهم".
وقال الأمين العام إن الوقت قد حان الآن لمواصلة عمل الدكتور عريقات الحاسم وإنهاء الصراع الذي أثر بشكل مأساوي على حياة الكثيرين.

The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, expressed his deep sadness at the death of Dr. Saeb Erekat, Secretary-General of the Palestine Liberation Organization and chief Palestinian negotiator in the Middle East peace process.
This came in a statement issued by the Secretary-General, in which he said:
"I am grateful for the knowledge and friendship that brought me and Dr. Erekat together. He devoted his life to the peaceful pursuit of justice, dignity and the legitimate rights of the Palestinians to self-determination, sovereignty and the establishment of their state."
