United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the Libyan parties' signature of the ceasefire agreement that took place in Geneva today under the auspices of the United Nations.
She was the Acting Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya Many people have suffered for a long time, according to what the Secretary-General told reporters at the permanent headquarters, noting that many men, women and children have died as a result of the conflict.
This agreement was negotiated within the framework of the 5 + 5 Joint Military Committee, and the United Nations facilitated the talks on the basis of Security Council Resolutions 2510 and 2542.
The agreement is the result of four rounds of negotiations that have been held since February of this year. The ceasefire also comes on the heels of a meeting that the Secretary-General co-chaired earlier this month with the German Foreign Minister, which helped mobilize the international community's efforts to support Libya.

In this context, Guterres thanked all those countries that had supported this mediation in the context of the Berlin process and in the meetings organized by the countries neighboring Libya.
Everyone must respect the agreement and implement its provisions
At his press conference, the Secretary-General appealed to all stakeholders and regional actors to "respect the provisions of the ceasefire agreement and ensure its implementation without delay."
Guterres called on the international community to support the Libyans in implementing the ceasefire and ending the conflict. This includes "ensuring full and unconditional respect for the arms embargo imposed by the Security Council."
He also urged the Libyan parties to maintain the current momentum and "show the same determination to reach a political solution to the conflict, resolve economic issues and address the humanitarian situation."
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) is making preparations for the resumption of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum, which will be preceded by a series of meetings and consultations that will facilitate the resumption of comprehensive Libyan political talks - with Libyan leadership and ownership.
Mr. Guterres emphasized that "there is no military solution to the conflict in Libya," noting that this ceasefire agreement "is a decisive step," but that there is a lot of hard work ahead.
The Secretary-General affirmed that the United Nations would continue "to support the Libyan parties in their quest for lasting peace in their country."

وكانت ممثلة الأمين العام بالإنابة ورئيسة بعثة الأمم المتحدة للدعم في ليبيا《 عانى الكثير من الناس لفترة طويلة، بحسب ما قال الأمين العام للصحفيين في المقر الدائم، مشيرا إلى أن الكثير من الرجال والنساء والأطفال ماتوا نتيجة للصراع.

وفي مؤتمره الصحفي ناشد الأمين العام جميع أصحاب المصلحة والجهات الفاعلة الإقليمية "احترام أحكام اتفاق وقف إطلاق النار وضمان تنفيذه دون تأخير".
ودعا غوتيريش المجتمع الدولي إلى دعم
الليبيين في تنفيذ وقف إطلاق النار وإنهاء الصراع. وهذا يشمل "ضمان الاحترام الكامل وغير المشروط لحظر توريد الأسلحة الذي يفرضه مجلس الأمن".
كما حث الأطراف الليبية على الحفاظ على الزخم الحالي "وإظهار نفس التصميم على الوصول إلى حل سياسي للصراع وحل القضايا الاقتصادية ومعالجة الوضع الإنساني".

وأكد السيد غوتيريش أنه "لا يوجد حل عسكري للصراع في ليبيا"، مشيرا إلى أن اتفاق وقف إطلاق النار هذا "هو خطوة حاسمة"، غير أن هناك الكثير من العمل الشاق الذي ينتظرنا.
وأكد الأمين العام أن الأمم المتحدة ستواصل "دعم الأطراف الليبية في سعيها إلى سلام دائم في بلادها".
